Pint-Sized RNC Performer Heavenly Joy Has a South Jersey Connection

Heavenly Joy Jerkins, the 6-year-old singer who rocked Quicken Loans Arena on the last night of the 2016 Republican National Convention, has ties to South Jersey.

The girl's father, Rodney Jerkins, is a record producer and Pleasantville, New Jersey native. Jerkins who goes by the stage name of Darkchild, is responsible for hits like "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy and Monica, "You Rock My World" by Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga's "Telephone" and "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child.

Heavenly Joy performed a medley of Christian and patriotic songs including "Let There Be Peace on Earth" and "America the Beautiful" to warm up the crowd Thursday night ahead of prime-time speeches from presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka.

The crowd was on its feet and people cheered and danced as the girl belted out the lyrics.

Heavenly Joy was a contestant on season 10 of NBC's America's Got Talent and appeared on "Little Big Shots."

She posted, with the help of her parents, a video to Twitter about two hours before the performance saying "God Bless America" and asking people to watch her performance.
