More budget cuts may be coming to the cash-strapped School District of Philadelphia.

School officials announced Friday that the district needs an additional $216 million to keep operating as they are right now, which they say is already inadequate.

Chief Financial Officer Matt Stansky said the $2.4 billion budget can't even maintain the current bare bones staffing levels and without the additional revenue, 1,000 more teachers could lose their jobs.

Superintendent William Hite said if the district can't come up with the additional funds, they will be forced to increase the typical class size to 40 students.

The School Reform Commission will have a public hearing on the budget next Wednesday.

The commission will vote on a final budget May 29.
