Philadelphia Region Hosts Free Testing Events in Honor of National HIV Testing Day

In Pennsylvania, around 36,000 people live with the disease, according to the latest figures from the state department of health

Thursday marks National HIV Testing Day, and the Philadelphia region will be offering free testing to mark the occasion.

About 1.1 million people in the United States have HIV, and one in seven of them don't know they have it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Pennsylvania, around 36,000 people live with the disease, according to the latest figures from the state department of health.

This year's National HIV Testing Day theme is "Doing It My Way," which is meant to encourage people to get tested in a way that is comfortable for them. The CDC recommends that everyone between 13 and 64-years-old get tested for HIV at least once, and those at high risk get tested at least once a year.
