Feds Charge Philly Detective in $24k Bribery Scheme

A Philadelphia police detective has been charged with accepting $24,000 in bribes in exchange for expediting requests to get recovered rental cars on the national registry of stolen vehicles back on the road.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Patrick Pelosi faces charges including honest services fraud and lying to federal investigators.

His lawyer didn't immediately return calls for comment.

Court documents accuse Pelosi of striking a deal with a retired detective who ran a company that recovers stolen vehicles for clients, including rental car chains.

Authorities say Pelosi received monthly payments in exchange for deleting recovered cars that never received required inspections from a national law enforcement database of stolen vehicles.

Pelosi's first court appearance hasn't been scheduled.

Officials say the 27-year veteran of the force remains in his position.
