Philadelphia's district attorney is criticizing Attorney General Kathleen Kane's decision to scuttle a sting operation in which five Democrats - including four state lawmakers - were allegedly caught on recordings accepting money or gifts.
The Philadelphia Inquirer on Saturday says District Attorney Seth Williams has written an opinion piece for Sunday's paper questioning Kane's decision - and defending two investigators who worked on the probe for the attorney general's office before going to work for Williams.
Williams, who is a black Democrat, denies the investigators were motivated by race in targeting the black lawmakers as Kane has suggested.
Kane, a white Democrat, cited that and other factors in shutting down the investigation, which was begun under her Republican predecessor.
Williams writes, "I have seen racism. I know what it looks like. This isn't it."
