A Philadelphia Police Officer is under arrest for insurance fraud, theft by deception, conspiracy and other related charges.
Police say that 44-year-old Gary Cottrell, a 14-year veteran in the 14th District, acted as a “wreck chaser” while both on and off-duty.
Cottrell allegedly sent car accident victims to University Collision Centers, for which he received illegal cash payments.
Police also say that Cottrell filed false claims of his damage to his own vehicles.
Cottrell is suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss.
