Philly Goes Into Snow Emergency Mode

Move your cars off emergency routes before 7 p.m.

Philadelphia goes into snow emergency mode at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 for Round 2 of the storm.

You probably know the drill by now, but just in case, the bullhorn thing to remember is YOU MUST MOVE YOUR CAR OFF SNOW EMERGENCY ROUTES before 7 p.m.

If you need a place to park it, there are six city garages where can get a two-day parking discount of $5 a day. That parking discount starts after 4 p.m. today and ends at 7 a.m. Friday morning.

Here are the PPA Auto-Park garage locations:

  • JFK at 16th & JFK
  • Independence Mall at 5th and Market
  • Jefferson at 10th and Ludlow
  • Gallery Mall at 10th and Filbert
  • 8th and Filbert
  • Old City at 2nd and Sansom

The City's Code Blue status is in effect as well right now, so if you see someone who needs assistance or shelter, you can call the Homeless Outreach Coordinateion Center at 215-232-1984.

Trash and recycling collection will be delayed one day for the rest of the week. If you have rear driveway pickup, you'll need to place your trash curbside.

"Our priority is public safety," said Streets Commissioner Clarena Tolson. "Crews and trucks that normally are dedicated to trash and recycling will be fully engaged making streets passable."
