4 Shot, 1 Dead in a Matter of Hours

Violence erupted overnight leaving one man dead, four people hurt and police tape strung across streets in numerous neighborhoods.

Shots rang out around 1 a.m. along the 3200 block of Shelbourne Street in Philadelphia’s Kensington section. An unidentified man was struck in the back and taken to Temple University Hospital, according to Philadelphia Police. His condition wasn't known.

Just before 2 a,m,, about a mile down Kensington Avenue, someone fired at least six times at a man in his 50s along the 2600 block of Jasper Street. The man, who police believe lived nearby, was struck multiple times in the face and neck and died at the scene.

"We know he was shot from point-blank range," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Less than an hour later, a 31-year-old man was shot in the head along the 2200 block of N Cleveland Street in North Philadelphia. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Finally, a group of men tried to rob a 52-year-old father and his 23-year-old daughter as they parked their car along the 4800 block of Whitaker Street in the city’s Feltonville neighborhood.

A struggled ensued and the woman was punched in the face while her father was shot in the backside as he attempted to flee the scene. The man was able to drive himself to the hospital where he was treated, according to police. His daughter wasn't seriously injured.

No one was arrested in any of these shootings. Police hoped surveillance video would help in the investigation.

These shootings come on the heels of three police-involved shootings within a matter of one day Wednesday. One man was killed in one of those shootings as a 2-year-old child and 25-year-old woman were caught in the crossfire.
