Philly Students Could Get Another Snow Day Break

The School District of Philadelphia is asking the state for a break because of the season's record-setting snowfall.

Philadelphia schools superintendent Arlene Ackerman says she'll ask the Department of Education for a waiver of the 180-day rule.

State law requires school to be in session for 180 days but Philadelphia's schools have already been closed for five days this year.

Ackerman says she'd prefer to end the school year on time rather than add five days to the end of the year for the district's 160,000 students.

Other options include shortening spring break and holding classes on the day of the primary election.
