Man Accused of Stealing Philadelphia Police Officer's Uniform

Officials are searching for a man accused of stealing a Philadelphia Police officer’s uniform.

A 25th District Officer was on the fifth floor of the Criminal Justice Center at 1301 Filbert Street Tuesday at 11:50 a.m. and preparing to testify in a court. Before testifying, the officer took off his uniform patrol jacket, badge and police hat and placed them on the bench outside the courtroom. After leaving the courtroom at 12:05 p.m., the officer discovered his patrol jacket and hat were missing.

Investigators later found surveillance video which shows an unidentified man entering the Criminal Justice Center at 11:46 a.m. In the video, the man takes the elevators up to the fifth floor, takes the police uniform jacket and places it inside a white Macy’s bag, investigators said. He then returned to the elevator and left the building, according to officials. Police say he was last seen heading west from the Criminal Justice Center towards Broad Street at 12:01 p.m.

The suspect is described as a man between 40 and 50 years of age with a salt and pepper beard and mustache. He was last seen wearing a tan NY baseball hat, tan jacket, red vest, white shirt, tan pants and boots.

If you have any information on the suspect’s whereabouts, please call the Central Detective Division at 215-686-3093/3094.
