Philadelphia Police Officers Face Variety of Charges

Three Philadelphia Police officers were out of a job while facing separate charges.

“Whether it be animal cruelty, perjury, theft or any other crime, our city deserves better then what Officers Roderick, Hulmes and Jackson have given us,” said Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams.

Officer Roderick Walton, a 23-year veteran assigned to the 14th District resigned Wednesday after the 50-year-old’s arrest for cruelty to animals. Police said Walton abused his dog.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended Officer Christopher Hulmes, a 19-year veteran assigned to the department’s Narcotics Strike Force, for 30 days with the intent to dismiss after Hulmes’ arrest for false statement.

Police said Hulmes, 42, lied about a 2010 narcotics arrest on official police documents.

Ramsey also suspended with the intent to fire Officer Christopher Jackson, a 9-year veteran assigned to the 25th District, after the officer’s arrest for theft. Police said Jackson, took a witness’ cellphone in 2013 and never gave it back.

“The vast majority of Philadelphia Police Officers are nothing short of good men and women who are dedicated to protecting the citizens of the City of Philadelphia within the law,” said Williams. “Unfortunately, there are a few like these three officers, who have decided to break the law.”
