Philadelphia Orchestra Musicians Approve Labor Deal

A new collective bargaining agreement has been reached between the Philadelphia Orchestra association and its musicians union.

There's good news for the Philadelphia Orchestra as they head into their opening night performance. The Orchestra said a new collective bargaining agreement has been reached between the orchestra association and its musicians union, according to the Associated Press.

Orchestra officials said a tentative agreement reached last week has been ratified by players and approved by the Philadelphia Orchestra Association board.  Officials said the agreement calls for cutting salaries and changes in the musicians' pension plan.

The agreement now goes to the bankruptcy judge for approval. The orchestra filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year.

Meantime, the union which represents stagehands that work for the Kimmel Center announced they will hold a news conference Friday morning to discuss terms of a new labor agreement between the stagehands and Kimmel Center management.

The Philadelphia Orchestra opens it's new season with a concert Thursday night at the University of Pennsylvania's Irvine Auditorium.
