Philly parks are getting some international love

Fairmount, Wissahickon Valley, Pennypack, Penn, FDR and more. Philadelphia has a lot of great parks, and they are starting to get some international attention.

In a list released by Frommer’s travel experts, Philadelphia makes the cut in “The World’s 10 Best Cities for Parks,” with a specific mention of the historic Fairmount Park (which is on the United States National Register of Historic Places).

“The City of Brotherly Love’s Fairmount Park is actually made up of 63 individual parks, stretching predominantly along the Schuylkill River over 9,200 acres (or about 10% of Philadelphia),” Frommers writes. “The parks are home to more than 200 historic buildings, America's oldest zoo, six golf courses, cycling trails, performance venues, and an array of landscaped gardens and wooded areas.”

Other cities appearing on the list include New York City, Chicago, San Francisco,  Munich, Paris, Tokyo, London, Barcelona and Melbourne, Australia.
