Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney Reveals Plan to Combat Lead, Protect Children

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and other city leaders unveiled the city’s plan to prevent lead poisoning Monday.

Kenney unveiled the "Lead-Free Kids: Preventing Lead Poisoning in Philadelphia" plan at a 9 a.m. news conference at City Hall.

The goal of the program is to protect children from lead, which can cause developmental problems.

"Lead poisoning has affected generations of children here in Philadelphia and many adults in the city today are suffering from these affects," said Kenney. "Today we are committing that the next generation of children in Philadelphia will not have to face these same dangers."

Part of the plan is to make landlords ensure a property is lead free before renting to families with children.
