Former Philadelphia district attorney Lynne Abraham and another attorney have filed suit in an effort to have District Attorney Seth Williams removed from office as he fights a federal bribery and extortion case.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Abraham and attorney Richard Sprague jointly filed suit in Common Pleas Court on Monday arguing that state law bars Williams from remaining in office now that his law license has been temporarily suspended.
Williams has said he will stay in the $175,000-a-year post in an administrative role. He is accused of taking more than $100,000 in cash and gifts from two businessmen in exchange for favors.
The two-term Democrat has said he got into financial problems after a divorce. His attorney didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
