Philadelphia Christmas Tree Recycling Starts This Week

Philadelphia's Christmas tree recycling program starts this week.

The program will run from Jan. 4 through Jan. 16. Officials said it was put in place nearly 30 years ago to provide citizens with an environmentally friendly way to dispose of their Christmas trees.

Anyone who wants to drop off a tree can stop by a Streets Department Sanitation Convenience Center between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Sanitation Centers are located at:

  • 3033 S. 63rd St. (63rd between Eastwick and Passyunk avenues), Southwest Philadelphia
  • Domino Lane and Umbria streets, Roxborough
  • State Road and Ashburner Street, Holmesburg
  • 2601 W. Glenwood Ave. (Glenwood just above Ridge Avenue), North Philadelphia
  • 5100 Grays Ave. (Grays Avenue and 51st Street), Southwest Philadelphia
  • 3901 N. Delaware Ave. (Delaware between Castor Avenue and Lewis Street), Port Richmond

The city will also open 23 designated locations for Christmas tree drop-offs throughout the city on Saturday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. City residents can drop off their trees at any location. Those locations are:

  • West Philadelphia: 66th Street and Haverford Avenue
  • Overbrook/Wynnefield: 54th Street and Woodbine Avenue
  • University City/Powelton: 43rd Street and Powelton Avenue
  • Southwest Philadelphia/Eastwick: 52nd Street and Buist Avenue
  • South Philadelphia/Southwest Center City: Broad and Christian streets
  • Packer Park: 20th and Hartranft streets
  • South Philadelphia: 15th and Bigler streets
  • Fairmount: Corinthian and Poplar streets
  • Fishtown/Lower North Philadelphia/Northern Liberties: American and Thompson streets
  • Chestnut Hill: Gravers Lane and Seminole Street
  • Roxborough: Cathedral Road and Ridge Avenue
  • East Germantown/West Oak Lane: Washington Lane and Ardleigh Street
  • East Mount Airy: Upsal Street and Lowber Avenue
  • Logan: Fisher and Ogontz avenues
  • Olney/East Oak Lane: 5th Street and Chelten Avenue (water reservoir)
  • Frankford/Northwood: Castor Avenue and Foulkrod Street
  • Burholme/Castor: Cottman Avenue and Pennway Street (Jardel Recreation Center)
  • Mayfair: Princeton and Brous avenues (Mayfair Recreation Center)
  • Fox Chase: Rockwell Avenue and Ridgeway Street (Fox Chase Recreation Center)
  • Rhawnhurst/Bell's Corner: Bustleton and Solly avenues
  • Far Northeast: Comly and Norcom roads (Palmer Playground)
  • Tacony/Holmesburg: Torresdale and Cottman avenues (Russo Park)
  • Germantown/Nicetown: Wayne Avenue and Logan Street
