Philadelphia Celebrates Pennsylvania Wine Month With Special Events and Awesome Deals

Raise a glass of local wine to Pennsylvania Wine Month!

October marks the peak harvest season at regional wineries, making it the perfect time for Pennsylvania Wine Month — a month-long, statewide celebration of local wines.

The Philadelphia region is an ideal place for wine production, with its temperate climate, gently rolling hills and large bodies of water that create warmer soil for a long growing season. Fun fact: Pennsylvania has more than 270 wineries and produces 2.25 million gallons of wine per year!

Throughout October, dozens of events and tastings take place at Philly bars and restaurants to highlight regional producers and the bounty of wines made with state-grown grapes.

And the new Visit the Vines partnership with SEPTA and Lyft gives visitors up to 30% off their rides from Regional Rail stations to 25 area wineries.

Pennsylvania Wine Month Events

Bars and restaurants around Philadelphia host special Wine Month happy hours, by-the-glass specials, pairing dinners and more events throughout the month.

Places like Fishtown Social, Jean-Georges Philadelphia and White Dog Cafe (all locations) expand their by-the-glass menus to add more Pennsylvania wines for the entire month of October.

The Love. in Rittenhouse hosts a ticketed dinner event featuring food and local wine all sourced from within 100 miles of the restaurant (October 22).

Tria locations in Rittenhouse and Washington Square West offer $7 glasses of Pennsylvania wines during happy hour (Mondays through Thursdays) and plan to highlight Pennsylvania wineries at their weekly “Sunday School” events, where guests can learn about and try different wines along with cheese and beer (October 6, 13, 20 and 27).

And some newly opened restaurants get in on the Wine Month action this year, as well. Elwood in Fishtown cooks up a special five-course dinner to pair with wines from Chester County’s Galer Estate Vineyard & Winery (October 22), while Bloomsday Café in Headhouse Square hosts a tasting event that showcases local producers (October 23).

Wineries and Vineyards of Greater Philadelphia

With geography, climate and growing conditions that mirror those of the Bordeaux region in France, Southeastern Pennsylvania continues to emerge as a force in American winemaking.

Many of the area’s wineries grow their own grapes. Others buy them locally, resulting in a spirit of cooperation among vintners.

Several vintners in the region have joined together to establish three wine trails all within a short drive from Philadelphia. The Brandywine Valley Wine Trail connects Chester County wineries, the Bucks County Wine Trail unites wineries just north of Philadelphia and the Montgomery County Wine Trail runs northwest of the city.

Wine Month is the perfect time to visit a regional winery, as many host picnics, festivals, tasting events, concerts and more during October.

To make it even easier to visit wineries in the region during Wine Month, SEPTA and Lyft are partnering to offer visitors 30% off of a Lyft ride from select Regional Rail stations to the 25 Pennsylvania wineries participating in Visit the Vines. Learn more about the promotion here.
