Philadelphia Archdiocese Closing Worship Site

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is closing a church building that had been used as a worship site since its congregation merged with another parish early last year.

The church to be closed, Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament, merged with St. Cyprian church in January 2013.

Since then, the combined parish has been known as St. Cyprian, though the Blessed Sacrament building remained open as a worship site.

The archdiocese says the merged parish asked for permission to close the building because it no longer has the funds to maintain the Blessed Sacrament site. The building was closed effective Friday, though the decision was not announced publicly until Sunday.

The pastor and parish council at St. Cyprian have yet to determine what will happen to the closed building.
