Perkiomen Valley School Board, Teachers Reach Tentative Agreement

Teachers of the Perkiomen Valley School District in Montgomery County will not hit the picket line this week after reaching a tentative agreement with school board officials Sunday.

The two sides held a last-minute negotiation session for five hours Sunday. Details of the have yet to be released.

Teachers had threatened to strike if a contract agreement was not reached by Monday evening.

Negotiations between the district and teachers have been going on since January 2010. The last contract expired in August.

Parents were told Friday that all classes for the district's 5,900 students would be cancelled in the event of a walkout Tuesday.

Perkiomen Valley teachers went on strike in 2002 for two weeks.
