UDel Coeds Attacked With Pepper Spray

2 female students mugged near Newark campus

University of Delaware students were on edge Monday after two young women were attacked with pepper spray and then robbed Saturday night.

The 21-year-old victims were walking near campus, on N Chapel Street near E Main when two other women approached them from behind and pepper sprayed the college students, Newark Police said.

Both women had their purses stolen. And one victim was tackled to the ground -- suffering a scraped knee. The other student wasn’t hurt.

After taking the girls’ purses the alleged robbers jumped into a nearby car.
