The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has approved a 6% toll increase for both cash and E-ZPass customers that will take effect next year.
The increase will kick in Jan. 5, 2020, on all sections and extensions administered by the commission.
Passengers vehicles using E-ZPass will pay $1.50 instead of the current $1.40 and cash customers, $2.50 instead of the current $2.30 once the increase goes in to effect.
Class-5 tractor trailers will face a $4 toll E-ZPass toll or $17.30 cash toll.
"Since 2007, the commission has increased tolls annually to maintain its aging roads," Turnpike Commission CEO Mark Compton said in a press release. "Parts of our tollway turn 79 years old on Oct. 1, and we must continue to invest in our road to make it safer, smoother and wider for customers."
The commission noted that three “cashless” tolling locations in western Pennsylvania — The Beaver Valley Expressway, Greensburg Bypass and Gateway tolling point — will see the increase on Oct. 27, 2019.
