A rural road has been renamed for a southwestern Pennsylvania soldier killed in Iraq 10 years ago.
Sunday's ceremony on a farm in Confluence honored Pfc. Nils Thompson.
Thompson, who was from Confluence, joined the Army shortly after high school and was killed Aug. 4, 2005 - a day after his 19th birthday - when a sniper shot him in Mosul, Iraq.
The (Somerset) Daily American reported the renaming ceremony was accomplished after lobbying by Chapter 5 of the Pennsylvania Rolling Thunder Organization, which has now had three roads renamed for soldiers killed in the line of duty.
The group's vice president, Marty Johnson, says, "These men and women have not only served their country, they gave their lives. This is a small way of honoring them.''
