PennDot Truck Damages SUV

A Somerton resident had the fright of his life while driving on the highway on Thursday.

Kevin McNicholas was driving Northbound on I-95 near Bridge Street around 12:15 p.m. Suddenly a massive mixture of snow and ice fell on top of his 2002 Lincoln Mountaineer.

“It sounded like an explosion,” said Kevin. “It sounded like a bomb went off.”

Kevin says that a PennDot truck was plowing snow and ice off a ramp above him, unknowingly forcing the icy mixture onto his vehicle.

The impact shattered his windshield, damaged the hood and broke the rearview and side view mirrors.

Luckily Kevin wasn’t hurt. While he isn't going to sue PennDot, he was sure to let them know what happened.

“I came forward just to make sure that it doesn’t happen again because it can be a worse consequence,” said Kevin.

PennDot told NBC10 that they received five similar calls from drivers in the same area where Kevin’s SUV was hit. They also said that they would put the word out to PennDot drivers to be more careful.

As for Kevin, while he’s happy that he wasn’t hurt, it took him a little while to tell his wife what happened.

“I called her later in the day. I didn’t want to upset her right away,” said Kevin.

“Because actually this is her car. I took it because of the snow.”
