Prosecutors Rule Deadly Hit-&-Run a Homicide

A pedestrian died after being struck by a car early this morning along a quiet South Jersey street and investigators believe he was intentionally run down.

The four-door sedan struck Eddie Lee Warthen along the 100 block of E Madison Street near North Commerce Street in Paulsboro, N.J. around 4:30 a.m., according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors investigated the incident as a homicide after Warthen, who was 30 years old, died about three hours later at Cooper University Hospital.

After the crash, two people fled the scene in the silver or gray sedan, according to investigators.

County detectives believe those people intentionally struck Warthen.

Warthen's death left family members crushed.

"He always had a smile on his face and he was a good man," said Warthen's cousin Thomas Young.
