Pedestrian Stuck in Windshield After Being Hit by Alleged Drunken Driver Dies

The pedestrian who was seriously injured by an alleged drunk driver who kept driving after hitting the man, trapping him in his windshield, has died.

Prosecutors say Kenneth Moeller, 61, of Lanoka Harbor, died Monday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he had been receiving treatment since the Nov. 10 crash on Route 9 in Ocean Township.

Investigators are discussing whether to upgrade charges against Marcos Ortega, a 33-year-old Little Egg Harbor resident, in the wake of Moeller's death. Ortega was initially charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and causing serious bodily injury to another while driving under the influence.

Police say they found Moeller stuck halfway through Ortega's windshield after they pulled Ortega over for allegedly driving erratically.

Bail at the time of Ortega's arrest was set at $150,000.

Information on an attorney for him was not immediately available.
