A passenger on a flight from Munich to Philadelphia terrified fellow travelers Tuesday night when he announced that he had a bomb in his bag and that “We’re all going to die,” according to an affidavit filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Alex Matthew Nelson, 21, of St. Paul, Minn., was arrested by U.S. Marshals Wednesday on federal charges of disrupting airline personnel and disrupting a flight, according to F.B.I. spokeswoman Nancy O’Dowd.
Only 40 minutes into U.S. Airways Flight 707 across the Atlantic Ocean, Nelson began acting antsy and erratic. As time continued he began showing signs of being on a controlled substance, the affidavit says.
As flight attendants and passengers with medical experience tried to calm Nelson, he told the people helping him that he had a bomb in his bag. A flight attendant alerted the pilots, and moved Nelson’s bag to the back of the plane. Nelson then began making sexually suggestive statements and seemed to be hallucinating, saying bizarre things and thrashing his arms about, according to the affidavit.
One medical professional on board, who has experience with drug overdoses, said Nelson seemed to be on LSD or ecstasy
Nelson was brought to Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania for evaluation.
