Six families are displaced following the multi-alarm blaze.

A parent and her child are dead and six families homeless following a mutli-alarm fire in Coatesville, Chester County Tuesday morning.

The three-alarm fire broke out around 12:15 a.m. in a home on the 500 block of East Chestnut Street. The flames spread quickly to nearby homes, according to fire officials.

Elizabeth Izquierdo and her 5-year-old son Imanol were killed in the fire. Two other people were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injures, officials tell NBC10's Tim Furlong.

"It's horrible, we were actually planning on moving together, her and her son and me, my husband and my baby," said neighbor Margaret Vara Reyes.

The Red Cross tells NBC10 that 31 people, including eight children, have been displaced by the fire. All of the victims are being cared for at the Community Center three blocks away.

No word on what started the fire.
