Parents Outraged Over Middle School's Ban on Shorts

A central Pennsylvania middle school expects to hear from unhappy parents about a proposal to ban shorts during the coming school year.

Lancaster Newspapers reported Tuesday that the meeting at Garden Spot Middle School will address a complete ban on shorts. They were previously allowed if they were long enough to reach students' fingertips while standing.

Shorts still would be allowed during gym class and for special events.

Garden Spot Principal Jeffrey Starr tells the newspaper the previous policy was difficult to enforce, and that teachers widely support a blanket ban.

The meeting will be held Thursday in the New Holland school's auditorium.
