Pa. Native, SEAL Team 6 Member Killed in Accident

Brett D. Shadle, 31, died Thursday night in Arizona

The military has identified a member of the elite SEAL Team 6 who was killed in a parachute training accident Thursday as a Pennsylvania native.

In a statement released Saturday morning, the Navy confirmed that the deceased SEAL was Special Warfare Operator Chief Brett D. Shadle, 31, from Elizabethville, Pa., just north of Harrisburg.

The accident occurred Thursday night in Marana, Ariz. NBC News reported that Shadle was pronounced dead on arrival at the University of Arizona Hospital. Another SEAL who was injured in the accident remains hospitalized in stable condition. Details of the accident were not immediately available, and an investigation is ongoing.

The Navy said in its statement that Shadle had been assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit.

SEAL Team 6 rose to national prominence in 2011 when it was revealed that members of the team had carried out the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden.
