Pa. Mother of Arrested Hiker Writes to Save Son

Laura Fattal: Josh sorry it's taking so long

More than six months after three hikers were arrested in Iran, an Elkins Park mother says she and other relatives of the three have been working ``24/7'' to win their release.

Laura Fattal said that in between efforts to end the crisis, she writes three letters every day to her son Josh and his two companions.

Sometimes writes simply: “Josh, I'm sorry it's taking so long.”

Relatives of 27-year-old Josh Fattal, 27-year-old Shane Bauer, and 31-year-old Sarah Shourd say they were hiking in Iraq's northern Kurdistan region in July when they accidentally crossed the border.

Relatives have been doing petition drives and letter-writing campaigns and plan to hold periodic candlelight vigils.

Their campaign also includes a Web site and freethehikers.org merchandise.
