Pa. Man Arrested in 2007 Murder

Police say the man shot a woman in the head while her children slept nearby.

Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania have charged a man in the 2007 death of a woman who was shot as her two young daughters slept nearby.

Berks County police say 36-year-old Corey Lee Vankeuren was arrested Tuesday morning in Emmaus as he drove to work at a construction job.

Chief Berks County Detective Michael Gombar says the 36-year-old is accused of the January 2007 shooting death of 20-year-old Audrey Giannotti.

Vankeuren is accused of killing 20-year-old Audrey Giannotti, who was shot in the back of the head in January 2007 in the basement of a Laureldale home. Police said the two girls were asleep and were unhurt. Detectives allege that Vankeuren killed the victim because she rejected his romantic overtures.

Vankeuren was arraigned on charges including first- and third-degree murder and aggravated assault. He was taken to Berks County Prison without bail.

Investigators say they found a 9 mm handgun in his home that matched bullet fragments from the scene, according to the Reading Eagle.

It was not clear if Vankeuren had an attorney.
