Wilmington Woman Shot in Drug Deal: Police

A woman attempting to purchase prescription pain-killers illegally was shot in the leg, Wilmington police said.

Authorities said that at 8 p.m. on Friday evening, a 28-year-old woman was trying to buy Percocet pills on the 1900 block of Washington Street.  Percocet is a medication derived from oxycodone used to treat severe pain.

According to police, the drug purchase had been previously arranged.  The 28-year-old woman, together with a 30-year-old male companion, drove to the meeting point.  When they arrived, an armed man approached the two of them, and a struggle ensued.  The woman tried to drive away, while her companion fought with the armed man.  The handgun was discharged twice, and the would-be drug buyer was struck in the leg.

After police interviewed the wounded woman, they went looking for suspects at an Elmhurst  residence.  Two were arrested in connection with the crime - 28-year-old Jennifer Mason, and 26-year-old Tally Shinder.  They were both charged with attempted robbery and conspiracy.

The shooter remains at large, and police continue to investigate.
