Trenton Man Shot in the Street After Drawing on Police

A detective from the Trenton Police force shot a suspected drug dealer in the street, after the suspect drew a gun on him.

Arresting officers said they found two loaded handguns, "ready to fire," on the shot man.

According to authorities, on Saturday morning around 10:16 a.m., they ran into Aaron Veh Carter, 32.  Police said Carter, also known by the nickname "Gunz," appeared to be in the middle of a drug transaction.  When he saw the police approaching, authorities said "Gunz" ran.

A detective gave chase, and tackled Carter to the ground on MLK Boulevard.  The suspect stopped resisting for a moment, but as the detective tried to cuff him, Carter than got back up and ran.

During this leg of the chase, Carter pulled one of his loaded handguns and pointed it at the pursuing detective.  The detective drew his service weapon and shot first, hitting the suspect several times.

Both the department and internal affairs will investigate the shooting, as is standard procedure.

Carter was transported to Capital Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
