DUI Charge For Fatal Hit and Run Driver

A woman accused of killing a pedestrian and driving away has been charged with driving under the influence.

Around 11 p.m. Friday, a woman was traveling through the Millcreek section of Philadelphia when she hit a parked car.  Police said the 59-year-old hit the car so hard that it knocked the front right tire off of her Suzukie Reno.

Now driving on a rim, the woman continued down the road, into an intersection at the 4600 block of Wyalusing Avenue.  There, she hit a pedestrian, sending him on to the hood and then roof of the vehicle, finally rolling off of the back of the car.

The woman did not stop, continuing on down the road four blocks before getting caught by police units.

The pedestrian was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, critically injured with a crushed chest.  The man did not survive.

Police said that in addition to the DUI charge, the driver will be charged by homicide by vehicle.
