85-Year-Old Man Jumped, Robbed: Cops

An 85-year-old man was attacked and robbed on Saturday, steps from his front door.

Police initially believed that four teenagers were involved in the attack, now they're saying one man -- whose age is unknown -- left the elderly victim bruised.

The incident happened in South Philly, near 11th and Snyder Streets. The victim, Peter Lavini, had gone to get a newspaper from a nearby store. On his way back, around 11:30 a.m., he was hit over the back of the head near his home.

"Can't even go buy a newspaper -- it's really ridiculous," Lavini said Monday.

The suspect took Lavini's wallet, and removed $200 in cash as well as the man's credit cards. The wallet was found discarded on a street not far from the attack.

"I couldn't even see his face," Lavini said.

Lavini was dazed and tried crawling towards his home. A neighbor saw him and called 9-1-1.

The retired tailor was transported to the hospital for evaluation but released after two days.

He was bruised but feeling much better Monday, he said.
