Housing Authority Worker Shot in the Head

A Philadelphia Housing Authority worker was in critical condition after he was shot in the head Saturday.
 
Rodney Barnes, 46, was shot once at around 2 p.m. while he and another co-worker were unloading tools out of his truck at Raymond Rosen Manor at 24th and Norris Streets in North Philadelphia, officials said.  

The victim’s wife, Shirley Barnes, told NBC 10’s Monique Braxton the couple had just celebrated 23 years of marriage.

β€œMy husband was just working.  Who walks up to someone and shoots them in the head while they are just working?” she said.

Dozens of family members and friends prayed for the victim outside Temple hospital were Barnes remained in critical condition as of Saturday night.

Barnes, a father of four, has spent 20 years as a carpenter and is a minister at Mount Airy Church of God in Christ. 

Barnes agreed to work at Raymond Rosen when some co-workers would not because they were afraid, according Philadelphia Housing Authority co-workers.

β€œHe was working with a 25 percent pay cut and this is what happens -- working, doing his job and taking care of his family,” said Shirley Barnes, who added that she is hoping with all her might that her husband survives.

Detectives were trying to determine if the shooting was related to the Friday shooting of another man one block away.
