When officials turned on the lights on a Christmas Tree in Center City, they were not only adding a festive luster to Dilworth Plaza but also illuminating Philadelphia-area businesses – especially small businesses that helped bring the holiday cheer to City Hall.
Displayed at City Hall is what is being called Philadelphia's official Holiday Tree, with a steel base around the bottom of the Christmas tree designed by a firm that's worked on high-profile productions like Hamilton, the Broadway smash hit and Tony Award-winning musical.
The tree lighting took place Saturday, Nov. 26, or Small Business Saturday.
The tree is part of the city's new, seven-week Philly Holiday Festival that features parades, light shows and fireworks displays from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day.
The tree is a major investment for Philadelphia, funded in partnership with a number of businesses from around the region, including Geno's Steaks, Inspire, One Liberty Observation Deck, the Bethany Miracle Center and Wawa.
