PA Wins $41M in Education Funding

Pennsylvania wins $41 million in federal education money through the "Race to the Top" program

Pennsylvania has won more than $41 million in education funding in the competitive federal grant program known as "Race to the Top."

Gov. Tom Corbett says a significant portion of the money will be used to fully implement a new teacher evaluation system now being piloted in more than 100 districts.

He says the funds will also help develop new evaluations for principals, which will be piloted during the next academic year.

The grant announced Thursday will also be used to improve science, technology, engineering and math education.

Pennsylvania is one of seven states to get a share of the $200 million allocated in this round of "Race to the Top." The other winners are Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana and New Jersey.
