Organic Meat Helps Bring Home The Bacon

More Pennsylvanians are bringing home the bacon thanks to a plant that is increasing its production of the all-natural version of the pork product.

Officials at Kunzler and Co. in Tyrone, says their plant added 13 employees last week, and has plans for adding 8 to 10 later this year. The plant about 90 miles east of Pittsburgh, now employs 175 people.

Plant manager Dave Grazier tells the Altoona Mirror the company is now producing about 120,000 pounds of natural bacon each week, on top of 250,000 pounds of its regularly processed bacon.

The all-natural product uses sea salt and raw sugar, and doesn't include any man-made cures or preservatives.

The company is headquartered in Lancaster. The Tyrone plant is the only one in the company that produces bacon.
