Passenger Dies in NJ Car Crash

Car slams into tree in Burlington County

One person was killed and two others were injured after a car slammed into a tree in Burlington County Sunday morning.

Authorities say the crash happened around 8:15 a.m. on Magnolia Road (County Route 644) in Southampton.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 1996 Saturn being operated by Jose Ribeiro was going northbound on Magnolia when the vehicle crossed the southbound lanes and hit a tree, according to New Jersey State Police.

Ribeiro's front seat passenger, Josue Rodrigues, a 45-year-old from Philadelphia, died on the scene, police said.

Ribeiro was airlifted to Helene Fuld Medical Center where he remained hospitalized with undisclosed injuries Sunday night, according to authorities.

A third passenger who was seated in the back of the car was treated at an area hospital and released, cops said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Sunday night.
