Officer Hurt After Cruiser Collides With Car

A South Jersey police officer driving with his emergency lights on was injured when his cruiser and a car collided, sending the cruiser into a cluster of trees.

Franklin Officer Stephen Casamassima was treated at a hospital for minor injuries, while the driver of the car refused medical treatment at the scene.

The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, as Casamassima was responding to a reported assault.

Authorities tell The Daily Journal of Vineland that the collision occurred when the car made a sudden U-turn in front of the police cruiser. The impact caused Casamassima's cruiser to go off the roadway and strike several trees.

No charges have been filed in the accident, which remains under investigation.
