Officer Fires at Armed Suspect During Chase in Germantown: Police

A police officer opened fire on an armed man during a foot chase in the Germantown section of the city Tuesday night, according to investigators.

Police say two officers approached three men on Wister Street near the intersection of Chelten Avenue. The officers believed one of the men was wanted for an unspecified crime, according to police.

Investigators say the men turned and ran away from the officers. One man then allegedly turned around, took out a gun and pointed it at the officers. One of the officers then took out his own weapon and opened fire.

Investigators say the three men continued to flee the scene and managed to escape.

Officials donโ€™t believe any of the men were struck during the shooting. Investigators couldnโ€™t find anyone recently admitted for a gunshot wound at local hospitals. They also didnโ€™t find any blood at the scene.

Police say the man who allegedly pointed his gun at the officers is 5-foot-11 and was wearing dark clothing. They have not yet released a more detailed description.
