Officials say an off-duty police officer shot and killed a man who opened fire inside a Philadelphia bar, killing a bystander.
Police say the officer was in plain clothes when a fight broke out between two other men inside the North Philadelphia bar early Sunday.
Lt. Ray Evers says the one of them pulled out a gun and fired, wounding the other and killing a bystander. Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross says the shooter then fired on the off-duty officer after he drew his weapon and ordered the man to surrender.
The officer returned fire, striking the suspected shooter. The unidentified man died at a hospital.
Officials identified the slain bystander as 25-year-old Michael Jones. The other victim was in critical condition Sunday evening.
