Turnpike Closure This Weekend

11-mile part of Pa. turnpike to be closed Sunday

Driving north this weekend? You might want to check your route before you go.

An 11-mile section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension will be closed for about six hours Sunday while workers do bridge work.

The closure will begin at 12:01 a.m. Sunday and remain in effect until 6 a.m. The toll highway will be closed between Mid-County (Exit 20) and Lansdale (Exit 31), according to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Traffic will be detoured and turnpike personnel will be positioned at the interchanges to direct motorists.

Route 309 is a possible alternate route.

The Northeast Extension has been under construction for some while as the roadway is widened to serve an increasing number of motorists.
