Cops Nab 2nd Suspect in N Philly Robberies

Men are accused of robbing and trying to rob Temple students, police say

About two months after being identified as a suspect in a string of North Philadelphia robberies -- some that targeted Temple students -- a 33-year-old Philadelphia man is in custody.

Timothy Ballard of the 900 block of W Erie Street turned himself into police Feb. 1 on robbery and other charges, Philadelphia Police announced Monday.

Ballard and Kevin Wilson, 27, of the 3800 block of N Franklin Street are accused of three robberies and two attempted robberies within the span of about one hour, cops said.

Four victims in the Nov. 30 incidents were Temple University students, officials said.

Wilson, 27, turned himself into police Dec. 5 after several tips came in that identified the men a few days earlier, cops said.

Police say the first robbery occurred at 7:45 p.m. on the 2000 block of N 15th Street. The victim was walking when police say he was approached by two men. One suspect allegedly showed him a silver handgun and demanded money. Police say he then went through the alleged victimโ€™s bag before fleeing with his accomplice down the 1900 block of N 15th Street without taking any money.

Around 8 p.m. police say the two suspects then approached two people on the 1900 block of Fontain Street. One suspect allegedly pointed a black handgun at a woman and stole her PNC Debit Card before fleeing south on 18th Street.

Around 8:15, police say the suspects then grabbed a woman on the 1300 block of N Carlisle Street. One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a gun and demanded money. They stole the womanโ€™s cell phone, debit card and money before fleeing north on Carlisle Street, according to police.

At 8:32 p.m., police say the suspects approached a man walking on the 1300 block of N Franklin Street. One of the suspects allegedly grabbed him by the neck and pointed a gun and demanded money. The suspects stole $10 and fled south on Franklin Street toward Girard Avenue, according to police.

Finally at 8:55 p.m., police say the suspects approached a woman walking on the 900 block of W Montgomery Street. One of the suspects allegedly pointed a gun at her and demanded money. When the woman claimed she didnโ€™t have any money, police say the suspects fled north on 10th Street from Montgomery Avenue.
