Trial Set for Woman Accused of Posing as Nurse to Snatch Newborn

A non-jury trial was scheduled to begin for a mentally ill woman charged with dressing as a nurse and abducting a 3-day-old child whom she allegedly sneaked out of a Pittsburgh hospital in a handbag.

Twenty-one-year-old Breona Moore, of East McKeesport, faces charges Monday including kidnapping, trespassing, and concealing the whereabouts of a child.

Allegheny County prosecutors allege Moore who was 5-foot-4 and 230 pounds at the time,  told friends she had given birth before buying hospital scrubs and pretending to be a nurse at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC on Aug. 23, 2012.

She was found hiding in a closet in a downtown building nearly five hours later with the child in her arms.

Moore's defense attorney says she's since been treated at Torrance State Hospital and is "in a much better place mentally.''
