No Shanksville Remains Sent to Landfill

9/11families welcome news about remains

Families of the victims of Flight 93 welcomed the news that no remains from the 9/11 crash site in western Pennsylvania ended up in a landfill.

The Air Force said Tuesday that some incinerated remains from the Flight 93 crash had been handled at Dover mortuary and were then dumped in a landfill. But Gen. Norton Schwartz said Wednesday morning that it now appears that no remains from Flight 93 were handled at Dover.

Patrick White, president of the Families of Flight 93, says the group welcomes the clarification ``and confirmation that no remains from Flight 93 are involved in this incident.''

Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville after passengers and crew challenged the four hijackers, preventing them from hitting a target in Washington, D.C.
