A shrine under renovations. will reopen so that graduates can get an iconic photo with their school’s mascot.
The Penn State Nittany Lion shrine that's been closed for renovations is temporarily reopening so summer graduates can pose for pictures in front of it.
The shrine was closed in May to begin renovations and improvements that include landscaping, better accessibility and new lighting. Students and alumni have long flocked to have their picture taken with the statue of the school mascot.
The Centre Daily Times reports the statue will be reopened this weekend before closing again Sunday. Renovations are scheduled to be complete Sept. 6.
The shrine is a gift of the Penn State class of 1940. The renovations are a gift of the class of 2012.
It’s unclear how much the improvements will cost.
