Officials at the Jersey City Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit tell The Jersey Journal that the baby was released Thursday to the custody of New Jersey's Department of Children and Families.

He was found August 31 by three boys playing behind an apartment building. Hospital official say the baby, now called Kenneth, was born 11 to 12 weeks premature. He weighs about four pounds, which they say is normal for a premature baby his age.

His mother, 39-year-old Rosibel Lanza, was arrested several days after the baby was found and charged with child abuse and endangerment.
