A law heralded by lawmakers as easing state restrictions on selling wine in Pennsylvania was approved this week, clearing the way for "by-the-bottle" licenses for hundreds of businesses that already sell beer.
That means a long list of grocery stores, hotels and restaurants.
But if the consumer thinks that means better prices are on the way, not so fast, according to Jason Malumed, a partner with MFW Wine Co., which imports and distributes in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.
The biggest problem to cheaper wine -- and alcohol, in general -- is the middle man remains: the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
